NLHO Dual Fuel Production Trial

We initiated a trial in 2023 where we set out to produce an S-100 stacked data set within a gridded scheme. With quite some trial and error we managed to produce S-101, S-102 , S-104 and S-111 products for the approach to the Naval base of Den Helder. This was a great opportunity for our developer to work on S-104 and S-111 production software, as well as the S-100 viewer that was developed alongside to provide the ability of viewing the produced data. This trial gave us a good insight in the challenges we face and provided us with ample lessons learned. For instance, the benefit of having a clear file naming convention in place.
The next step was to apply these lessons learned in a new trial with a stacked dataset for a larger area. We informed IC-ENC that we would provide test data and IC-ENC approached us if we were willing and able to provide updates for the S-101 ENCs planned for this trial. The objective of the trial expanded to producing gridded S-101 ENCs and keep these up to date alongside the current S-57 ENCs for a period of three months. For this reason, we chose a dynamic area where we expected regular updates. The S-101 ENCs where produced in Caris Composer while the S-57 ENCs by Caris HPD. By setting up a small work flow system, we managed to apply the S-57 updates in the S-101 ENCs as well. The Trial period ended on the 1st April 2024 and provided us and IC-ENC with great insights.

The results of the “Dual Fuel” trial were presented during the IC-ENC Technical Conference in Athens (TC24_1, 19-21 March 2024). Presentations and recordings of this and previous technical conferences are available within IC-ENC LMS (Learning Management System).
As we look back at a great and beneficial cooperation with IC-ENC during this trial, we are looking forward and excited to setting up our next trial; “Dual Fuel” production in Caris HPD with source based data.
