ENC Validation Training

At IC-ENC, we have been providing ENC Validation Training to our members since 2014. We deliver our training internationally and offer a mix of face-to-face and virtual events so that we can reach as many members as possible.

The course is delivered over a two-week period and includes a variety of theory, practical-based and assessment learning.

The course provides attendees with an overview of the roles and responsibilities of IC-ENC as a RENC, followed by a deep dive into ENC validation and practical application of ENC validation back at their home ENC production offices.

Course Content

The course includes a combination of eLearning modules and live seminars which aim to:

  • Introduce the trainees to the roles and responsibilities of IC-ENC

  • Provide the trainees with an understanding of ENC validation

  • Provide the trainees with the knowledge and skills required to
carry out ENC validation at their ENC production offices

Learners also have access to a dedicated forum where they can discuss any aspect of the training with other learners and the trainer, as well as a Q&A page which includes all questions (and answers) raised during the training.

  • An initial meet and greet session where an overview of the course is provided, and attendees introduce themselves. Attendees will then complete the following eLearning modules:

    1. IC-ENC overview

    2. ECDIS for ENC Validation

    3. Reference Information for ENC Validation

  • Three sessions will be run during a one-week period, delivered as live seminars via the IC-ENC LMS to allow for demonstrations. Attendees will have exercises to complete following each session. The sessions are as follows:

Session 2 - Supply of data to IC-ENC

    Session 3 - Data Validation - part 1

    Session 4 - Data Validation - part 2

  • A final wrap up and Q&A session where attendees are invited to give overall feedback and share how the learning has benefitted their work.

The most useful parts of the course were being able to get to know the whole process of validation from start to finish, and meeting IC-ENC staff members and representatives of other Hydrographic Office to exchange information and experiences amongst ourselves
